CURRICULUM VITAE

Joy Engelman is a regionally based Australian artist with an extensive career painting the Australian landscape. Her art journey spans over 35 years of experience in teaching, practising and exhibiting in the visual arts. With many solo and selected group art exhibitions behind her, Joy has received over 20 awards for both her art work and her commitment to the arts community. She has recently participated in the 2007 Florence Biennale, the highlight of her career to date. Her painting "This Sacred Place" was awarded fifth place in paintings and Joy was given the Lorenzo il Magnifico Award.

Her art work is represented in many overseas and national collections and she is included in several anthologies. Joy has developed and co-ordinated several public arts projects as well as mentoring other artists. Recent years have been spent in developing and building web, computer graphic skills and the print media with less emphasis on exhibiting. Joy now combines these skills and is developing her international network with the intention of strengthening the presence and recognition for Australian regional artists overseas.

Current paintings are explorations of outback Australia from an aerial perspective mapping the terrain and waterways. Having travelled extensively throughout the desert regions, Engelman is very familiar with the colours, textures and patterns of these areas. Of European descent, but born in Australia, she explores how we all have been inspired and influenced by this sacred place.
